Zoë, Zo for short (as if it needs to be any shorter lol), is a twenty-something year old, clinical mental health counselor. A native Oklahoman, but currently proud to call Atlanta home. She has had her fair share of culture shocks, moving from the southern-mid-west (that may, or may not, be a real geographical term) to the east coast. Combining her passions of healing & wellness, with travel, Zoë has found enjoyment in embracing other cultures, and connecting learning to life at every level through her world travels and founding of the global outreach organization, Outreach Within Our Reach, and the co-founder of, Unscripted Travels— a mental health based, clinical retreat program. Forever a student, Zoë is always eager to find new opportunities to bring light to the lives of the populations she encounters. Follow along to see her heart for people, her heart for the world, and to find out how you can be a part of the next adventure!
Behind the Name
Zoë: A small word with a big meaning. Biblically, it translates to the God kind of life, or eternal life. Growing up I always knew what my name meant, but I don’t think I ever fully understood the weight of it until recently. See, in the beginning was the Word and everything was created through Him. What came into existence was Life. And the Life was light to live by.
People typically use night lights to gain a sense of security or to alleviate their fear of the dark. Well, there is more darkness in the world than I would care to acknowledge; some of it I have chosen to approach through my profession as a mental health counselor. Even so, I believe that by illuminating our experiences we are better able to manage the difficulties that we face. Not eliminating them— but building endurance through them.
There are days I become overwhelmed and frustrated, and second guess my ability to be who I need to be. However, when these challenges come and I feel under pressure, my faith is thrust into the open. Vulnerability— I feel (and I don’t do that too well). But what I have learned is that when I don’t know what I am doing, I know at least one Whom I can ask for help.
My goal is a simple one— to share some of the things that Light up my Life, and in the same space, create an opportunity for conversation and resources that others might find helpful along the way.
